When is it ever a bad idea for DAHL?
During the recent circumstances of being home bound we find ourselves with a variety of pantry packs we may have never bought but in the panic of things we throw whatever long life packets loos good enough to store in our cupboards. I had recently picked up a pack of Mung Dal wondering what can I use this for? Dahl is a go to when I am looking for ideas and after some research I found Mung Dal is a great option for a simple dish. If you are looking for a quick , tasty and simple recipe look no further.
Best served with bread or flat breads.
Ingredients
3 cups Mung Beans
6 cups of water
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp cumin
Seasoning
1 chilli
1 onion
2 cloves of garlic
1 stem of ginger
1 tsp mustard seeds
dash of olive oil
coriander
Method
Soak the Mung Dal for an hour or so then drain the water and rinse. Once drained add the fresh water and simmer on a medium heat with turmeric and seasoning.
After 25-30 minutes check the Mung Beans if softening put onto a lower heat and pick up a frying pan and heat up some olive oil, add the mustard seeds followed by chopped onion and chilli fry for 4-5 minutes.
Put the garlic, ginger, cumin and garam masala into a Mortar and pestle and grind together add a dash of olive oil. Once a paste add to the pan and mix in with the onions and chilli. Transfer the mix to the Mung Dal and stir in. Let this simmer for five minutes then serve with chopped coriander to garnish.
